In order to enhance students’ experiences and creativity, some schools in Da Nang have applied the Wallless Classroom model in education. This is a new model that helps students explore the natural world outside, become more interested and proactive in learning.
With experience in organizing many creative educational models, promoting students' cognitive and experiential abilities, Duc Tri Kindergarten - Primary and Secondary School has effectively applied the Wallless Classroom model to the training program.
Meritorious Teacher Le Thi Nga, Principal of Duc Tri Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary School, said that classrooms without walls are a form of experiential learning outside the classroom – where students can study under the sky. Instead of teaching children about the outside world through books, the school gives students the opportunity to explore everything around them. That knowledge will be grasped and remembered more easily by them. In addition, the content taught in traditional classrooms can also be taught in classrooms without walls.
According to Meritorious Teacher Le Thi Nga, if children are placed in a room, they will only know about television and telephones. But if children are placed in a garden, they will be immersed in nature. Children always have abundant energy to explore everything. Therefore, a classroom without walls will be an ideal environment to bring students many benefits such as: Grasping knowledge proactively, engagingly, remembering longer; training thinking ability and intelligence; enhancing life skills, learning skills; educating love for nature, nurturing emotions for students from an early age.
In each classroom without walls, teachers act as guides, who directly guide, inspire ideas and ensure the safety of students. This new form of classroom organization requires teachers to be constantly creative in order to create attractive lesson plans. However, this is also an opportunity for teachers to have more interesting experiences with their students.
Participating in the class without walls, Nguyen Bao Tran, a student of class 5/3, Ong Ich Khiem Primary School, shared: I had interesting experiences, filled with joy in the class without walls. Here, I explored the world around me with my friends, and learned about many species of plants and animals.
Keeping up with the trend and meeting the needs of developing an educational model of discovery and experience in schools, Ms. Truong Hoai Linh has opened an experiential garden, playing and learning for students called Edu Garden (on My Khe 3 Street, Son Tra District), covering an area of 3,000 m2. The garden is divided into two areas, including: a place to play and experience baking and mixing skills... and a tree planting area. Here, teachers will guide children in making cakes, mixing drinks, learning about the growth and development of plants and planting trees themselves... At the same time, teachers teach children teamwork skills and organize games.
Ms. Truong Hoai Linh said that the garden has only been open for 1 month but has welcomed many groups of students from many schools to participate in the experience and play. This is a new educational model, helping children explore the world around them in the most realistic way. Thanks to that, children no longer sit in one place with books and tables and chairs. Activities in the garden help them move more. In addition, adapting to a diverse natural environment will give children better thinking ability. Through these experiential activities, children improve their soft skills, communication and emotional development.
